Pawsible Puppy Raiser Academic Scholarship

This Scholarship provides $2,500 to five student, volunteer puppy raisers twice a year.

The purpose of the scholarship funds is to alleviate some of the financial stress that student puppy raisers face by putting $2,500 towards their academic expenses. The scholarship can be used for tuition and fees, books, and supplies.

One of these scholarships will be reserved for a volunteer puppy raiser that identifies as a member of a racial or ethnic minority. Applicants who are considered for this reserved scholarship will be still evaluated as potential recipients for the other four scholarships.

Scholarship FAQs

I am a co-raiser/secondary raiser. Am I eligible?

As long as you have some financial responsibility for the puppy you are raising, you are eligible to receive the scholarship. We will confirm this to the best of our ability with the contact for your club/assistance dog organization that you provide us.

I do not currently have a puppy, but am scheduled to get one some time during the semester. Can I still apply?

As long as you will have the puppy for at least one full month out of the semester, you are eligible to apply.

My dog is due to go in for formal training at some point during the semester and I may not raise again. Can I still apply?

As long as you will have the puppy for at least one full month out of the semester, you are eligible to apply.

I am a part-time student/graduate student/community college student/vocational school student. Can I still apply?

Yes!

Can I apply if I am not a part of a Pawsible Chapter?

Yes. Our scholarship program is for any volunteer puppy raisers of a non-profit assistance dog organization.

If I have received a Raiser Relief or Puppy Starter Kit award from Pawsible can I still apply?

Yep! This is a completely separate program.

Will being awarded this scholarship affect my Raiser Relief/Puppy Starter Kit award or applying for Raiser Relief/Puppy Starter Kit in the future?

Nope! This is a completely separate program.

If I was a recipient of the Pawsible Puppy Raiser Scholarship last semester, can I receive it again this semester?

No, you may only receive it once a year.

What can the scholarship be used for?

The funds from this scholarship may only be used for tuition and fees, books, and supplies.

How will scholarships be awarded?

Scholarships will be sent directly to your educational institution.

Could receiving this scholarship affect my financial aid?

Yes. Your school may choose to redetermine your financial aid award package because of this scholarship.

Who chooses the scholarship recipients?

Recipients are chosen by Scholarship Committee members who are Pawsible volunteers. Donors are not involved in this process. Additionally, no one on the scholarship committee is allowed to apply.

How are recipients chosen?

Applications are made blind by our Chief Programs Officer so that there is no personal identifying information when the Committee reviews your application. Applications are given points based off of Commitment to Puppy Raising and Demonstrated Financial Need. Applications that make it to the second round are discussed amongst the committee with Pawsible’s values in mind to determine the recipients.

What are Pawsible’s values?

You can find our values here.

How does the reserved scholarship for Racial and/or Ethnic Minorities work?

Those who check yes to the question “Do you identify as a Racial and/or Ethnic Minority?” will be considered for all five scholarship spots. Their application will go through the whole process stated above with no information visible to the Scholarship Committee regarding identifying as a Racial and/or Ethinic Minority. Once the scholarship committee has chosen four recipients they will get a pool of applications for the fifth scholarship that will include only those that identify as a racial and/or ethnic minority and have not already been chosen for a scholarship.

What happens if I am awarded the scholarship and do not finish the semester?

If the scholar does not complete the term or withdraws from school, the scholar must notify Pawsible in writing with the reasons and the scholar’s future intentions. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to request restitution of monies expended for the term or period of withdrawal.

What happens if I am awarded the scholarship and my plans to raise a future assistance dog fall through?

If an awardee fails to raise a future assistance dog for a non-profit at all during the term, they fail to meet the terms of the scholarship. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to request restitution of monies expended for the term or period of withdrawal.
