Pawsible Inc. is in need of a Director of Accounting. The Director of Accounting will be responsible for Pawsible’s financial management. The Director of Accounting will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Management. The Director of Accounting is granted voting rights on the Assistance Council and is expected to act in an empathetic manner to the needs of others while also protecting and expanding Pawsible's resources. The position of Director of Accounting is a remote, part-time, and unpaid position within a growing executive suite of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The individual holding this position is expected to not only fulfill all outlined duties but also take initiative in growing the position and setting positive precedence. No specific work experience is required but you must be able to perform the tasks assigned to you, even if that means learning on the job. We do ask that all applicants have a background in fundraising.


Minimum Expected Duties:

  • Assist Pawsible's CFO in leading the Accounting team (If CFO position is unfilled, Director of Accounting leads this team with assitance from the CEO)

  • Manage the Accounting team's projects and cross-team collaborations, serve as project manager for the Accounting team

  • Work closely with the CFO, CEO, and Board of Directors to manage Pawsible's finances

  • Oversee and assist in Pawsible's accounting methods and practices, develop workflow documentation as needed

  • Sit on Pawsible's Assistance Council as an assistance advisor

  • Be an advocate for the preservation of Pawsible’s funding, while also ensuring that applicants in-need are given appropriate assistance

  • Assist and consult on finances with other Pawsible teams as necessary

  • Keep any application details confidential and abide by Pawsible's Code of Conduct

  • Attend all Executive meetings (held virtually)

Manage Funds

  • Oversee accounting operations

  • Keep track of Pawsible’s availability of funds

  • Incorporate estimated cost of any donations into budgets; assist in Pawsible's quarterly budgets

  • Track monetary need of the whole organization

  • Form policies/standards of practice and ensure compliance

  • Be responsible for ensuring we have all the necessary purchase receipts

  • Financially advise the Executive Suite and the Board of Directors when requested (if CFO position is not filled)


Please note this position is entirely remote. Zoom will be used for video conferencing and the Google Suite is used for all the organization’s activities and functions. Fluency in Google Drive products is required.

Requirements

To fill the Director of Accounting position, we are seeking an individual that:

  • Can work remotely 5-10 hours a week (hours are flexible) and video conference for regular executive suite meetings

  • Takes initiative, is hardworking, creative, resilient, and works well in a group

  • Has basic knowledge about organization financial management; preference given to those with functional knowledge and relevant work/volunteer experience

  • Is willing to learn on the fly and creatively mesh their skills and ideas into the goals of the executive suite

  • Can balance and prioritize various tasks and goals while meeting deadlines; has project management skills and/or is excited to learn such skills

  • Is comfortable managing a team of 1-10 individuals including delegation of work and tasks; able to provide professional support as needed; comfortable working alone at times

  • Is excited to work in the nonprofit industry and has an appreciation for assistance dogs and volunteers who raise and train them through their puppy years

  • Is willing to volunteer their time and effort to this position. Pawsible is young and currently unable to pay any executive or leader within the organization

  • A love for dogs is always a plus!

About Us

Pawsible is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was co-founded by Vanessa Barker (CEO) and Cate Law (Senior Director of New Initiatives) in March 2019 to financially assist volunteer raisers of future assistance dogs who are required to pay for at least part of the basic needs of the puppy. To assist puppy raisers, Pawsible operates programs focused on providing financial support, community development, and leadership / professional development to volunteer puppy raisers. 


Pawsible's executive management is responsible for growing and maintaining the operations of Pawsible, also reporting their progress to Pawsible's Board of Directors. Pawsible’s mission is to not just assist individuals and groups in need of support within the assistance dog industry, but also to advocate for them provide mechanisms of support for their endevours.
