Pawsible is expanding and is in need of an individual who can manage the organization’s legal operations. We are looking for someone that has experience in nonprofit law and related legal management. The position of Chief Legal Officer is a remote, part-time, and unpaid position within a growing executive suite of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This position has not been filled before and the individual holding this position is expected to not only fulfill all outlined duties but also take initiative in growing the position and setting a positive precedence. No specific work experience is required but you must be able to perform the tasks assigned to you, even if that means learning on the job. We do ask that all applicants have a background in legal work.


Minimum Expected Duties:

  • Work closely with CEO, COO, and CFO to meet the needs of Pawsible’s beneficiaries while also supporting Pawsible’s growth as an organization

  • Legally advise the executive suite and the Board of Directors when requested

  • Manage the Legal team's projects and cross-team collaborations, assist Director of Legal Affairs in project management as needed

  • Manage Pawsible's legal methods and practices, assist in documentation and proceedures 

  • Work with CFO to manage all taxes, annual reporting, and 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. (Pawsible is currently filed under 1023-EZ but looking to complete the standard 1023 form by 2023)

  • Assist CFO with tax-deduction receipts given to donors

  • Assist with all legal matters of a young and growing nonprofit. Much of what we will need is currently unknown and there will be a lot of opportunity in this position to grow your role. Taking initiative is a must

  • Work closely with CEO and COO to meet the needs of Pawsible’s beneficiaries while also supporting Pawsible’s growth as an organization

  • Attend all Executive meetings (held virtually)

This application can be also used to apply for a director-level legal position titled Director of Legal Affairs. This version of the position has similar duties/tasks, but you are not asked to advise Pawsible on legal matters on an offical basis. If Pawsible has no CLO, the Director of Legal Affairs is head of our legal team.


Please note that at this time this position is entirely remote. Zoom will be used for video conferencing and the Google Suite is used for all the organization’s activities and functions. Fluency in Google Drive products is required.

Requirements

To fill the Chief Financial Officer position, we are seeking an individual that:

  • Can work remotely about 7-15 hours a week (hours are flexible) and video conference for regular executive meetings

  • Takes initiative, is hardworking, creative, resilient, and works well in a group

  • Has extensive knowledge about organization legal management; preference given to those with functional knowledge and relevant work/volunteer experience

  • Can balance and prioritize various tasks and goals while meeting deadlines; has project management skills and/or is excited to learn such skills

  • Is comfortable managing a team of 1-10 individuals including delegation of work and tasks; able to provide professional support to team members and advice to others within our organization; comfortable working alone at times

  • Is excited to work in the nonprofit industry and has an appreciation for assistance dogs and volunteers who raise and train them through their puppy years

  • Is willing to volunteer their time and effort to this position. Pawsible is young and currently unable to pay any executive or leader within the organization

  • A love for dogs is always a plus!

About Us

Pawsible is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was co-founded by Vanessa Barker (CEO) and Cate Law (Senior Director of New Initiatives) in March 2019 to financially assist volunteer raisers of future assistance dogs who are required to pay for at least part of the basic needs of the puppy. To assist puppy raisers, Pawsible operates programs focused on providing financial support, community development, and leadership / professional development to volunteer puppy raisers. 


Pawsible's executive management is responsible for growing and maintaining the operations of Pawsible, also reporting their progress to Pawsible's Board of Directors. Pawsible’s mission is to not just assist individuals and groups in need of support within the assistance dog industry, but also to advocate for them provide mechanisms of support for their endevours.
