Pawsible is in need of an individual who can manage the organization’s accounting and financial operations. We are looking for someone that has experience in accounting and financial management. We encourage you to explore our website and social media for background on Pawsible's current work.
The position of Chief Financial Officer is a remote, part-time, and unpaid position within a growing executive suite of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The individual holding this position is expected to not only fulfill all outlined duties but also take initiative in growing the position and setting positive precedence. No specific work experience is required but you must be able to perform the tasks assigned to you, even if that means learning on the job. We do ask that all applicants have a background in accounting and financial management.
Additionally, the individual in this position may have an opportunity to join Pawsible's Board of Directors. If you have experience in nonprofit management or experience as a director, please note this in your application.
Minimum Expected Duties:
Manage the Accounting team's projects and cross-team collaborations, assist Director of Accounting in project management as needed
Work closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to meet the needs of Pawsible’s beneficiaries while also supporting Pawsible’s growth as an organization
Manage Pawsible's accounting methods and practices, assist in documentation and proceedures
Maintain Pawsible's bank account, accurately track all incoming and outgoing funds, and expand our banking to fit the needs of the organization as it grows
Complete yearly and quarterly budgets and help Pawsible meet its goals financially. Assist with annual reports and reports requested by Pawsible’s Board of Directors
Track the use of all funds, donations, and grants. Manage the receipt of donations and grants, and the disbursement of financial assistance
Manage tax-deduction receipts given to donors
Track the allocation of grant money per the limitations and rules of the grant
File Form 990 and related forms for Pawsible each fiscal year
Manage the quarterly remittance of Maryland sales tax
Assist and consult on finances with other Pawsible teams as necessary
Keep any application details confidential and abide by Pawsible's Code of Conduct
Attend all Executive meetings (held virtually)
Work closely with CEO and COO to meet the needs of Pawsible’s beneficiaries while also supporting Pawsible’s growth as an organization
Financially advise the executive suite and the Board of Directors when requested
Oversee accounting operations
Keep track of Pawsible’s availability of funds and oversee managment and budgeting of funds; lead Pawsible's quarterly and yearly budgeting and develop quarterly budgets with input from executive management
Incorporate estimated cost of any donations into budgets
Track monetary need of the whole organization
Form policies/standards of practice and ensure compliance
Review and manage purchasing and reciepts
Please note that this position is entirely remote. Zoom will be used for video conferencing and the Google Suite is used for all the organization’s activities and functions. Fluency in Google Drive products is required.

To fill the Chief Financial Officer position, we are seeking an individual that:
Can work remotely about 7-15 hours a week (hours are flexible) and video conference for regular executive meetings
Takes initiative, is hardworking, creative, resilient, and works well in a group
Has extensive knowledge about organization financial management; preference given to those with functional knowledge and relevant work/volunteer experience
Can balance and prioritize various tasks and goals while meeting deadlines; has project management skills and/or is excited to learn such skills
Is comfortable managing a team of 1-10 individuals including delegation of work and tasks; able to provide professional support to team members and advice to others within our organization; comfortable working alone at times
Is excited to work in the nonprofit industry and has an appreciation for assistance dogs and volunteers who raise and train them through their puppy years
Is willing to volunteer their time and effort to this position. Pawsible is young and currently unable to pay any executive or leader within the organization
A love for dogs is always a plus!

Pawsible is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was co-founded by Vanessa Barker (CEO) and Cate Law (Senior Director of New Initiatives) in March 2019 to financially assist volunteer raisers of future assistance dogs who are required to pay for at least part of the basic needs of the puppy. To assist puppy raisers, Pawsible operates programs focused on providing financial support, community development, and leadership / professional development to volunteer puppy raisers.
Pawsible's executive management is responsible for growing and maintaining the operations of Pawsible, also reporting their progress to Pawsible's Board of Directors. Pawsible’s mission is to not just assist individuals and groups in need of support within the assistance dog industry, but also to advocate for them provide mechanisms of support for their endevours.
